CCI is a non-profit Organization established in 2004 to support poor communities to develop their quality of life through sustainable solution. CCI's mission is to improve quality of life for all Tanzanians - particularly women living in informal settlement and rural setting by providing support to micro finance community driven, land and shelter, water and sanitation, health and HIV / AIDS and other development activities
The Tanzania Urban Poor Federation (TUPF) is a network of small savings and loaning groups living in informal settlements. The small groups formed are within the same neighbourhood with members from 15 to 100 for a larger group. The network was established in 2004 at Kurasini ward in Dar es Salaam city. Centre for Community Initiatives (CCI) supports the federation by empowering them to undertake different development activities for improving the quality of their life as well as linking the groups with government and other development stakeholders.The federation leadership starts from the group lever where there are leadership of Chairperson, Secretary and treasurer who are working together with five major committees; Auditing, Loan, Mobilization, Project, Enumeration and Advocacy. The leadership goes up to Regional and National level.
Currently the federation is in eight cities namely; Dar es Salaam (in all three municipalities), Morogoro, Dodoma, Mwanza, Mara, Arusha and new cities of Tanga and Zanzibar. The total members of federation are 9,800 who are in 216 saving groups.
